Sendo (Special Educational Needs Officer)

Salary: Grade 7 £27,409 to £31,347 per year
Location Sir John Nelthorpe School, Brigg
Hours: 37 hours per week, term time only plus 5 additional days
DBS: Yes Enhanced with Barred List Check

Sir John Nelthorpe School is seeking to appoint an experienced, highly organised and compassionate Special Educational Needs Officer (SENDo) to join our dedicated team from September 2025.

This is a key role within our SEND and Pupil Additional Support Service (PASS) teams, supporting the Assistant Headteacher (SENDCo) in ensuring that the SEND Code of Practice is fully implemented across the school. You will play a crucial part in improving outcomes for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and those receiving SEN support by developing and implementing systems that promote progress and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and manage effective systems to monitor and promote pupil progress across the curriculum.
  • Undertake interim reviews, create and support pupil plans, and prepare and lead intervention programmes.
  • Assess and manage examination access arrangements, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to the Examinations Officer and staff.
  • Provide day-to-day operational leadership of the Teaching Assistant team to support pupils’ access to learning.
  • Foster positive and supportive working relationships with pupils, parents, and staff.


The ideal candidate will:

  • Have significant experience and knowledge of working in a school setting.
  • Be extremely organised with excellent record-keeping and administrative skills.
  • Have a deep understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the wide range of additional needs encountered in education.
  • Be friendly, caring, and capable of building strong relationships with pupils and colleagues alike.
  • Essential Qualifications & Experience:
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) at Grade C or above.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Key Stage 3, 4 & 5 and Post-16 education pathways.
  • Understanding of how pupils learn and how additional needs may impact this.
  • Experience using ICT to support learning.
  • Familiarity with differentiation strategies to meet a variety of learning needs.
