At Sir John Nelthorpe School, we believe that every pupil deserves the support they need to flourish. We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and proactive Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive support team from Easter 2026. If you are patient, resourceful, and driven by the "lightbulb moments" in a pupil's learning journey, you’ll fit right in.

The Heart of the Classroom
As a Teaching Assistant, you aren't just an observer; you are the bridge between a pupil’s challenge and their success. You will work closely with our teaching staff to ensure no child is left behind.

Tailored Support: Work 1-on-1 or with small groups to break down complex tasks into manageable steps.

Remove Barriers: Support pupils with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) to access the curriculum fully.

Boost Confidence: Act as a mentor and motivator, helping students build the self-esteem they need to participate.

Track Progress: Help monitor student development and provide feedback to teachers and parents.

What We Offer You:

Joining our team means becoming part of a historic school that values its staff as much as its pupils.

  • A Welcoming Culture: Join a team that values collaboration and shares a commitment to student well-being.
  • Continuous Learning: Access to training and development to help you refine your skills in educational support.
  • Meaningful Work: The opportunity to see the direct impact of your work on a daily basis.

About You:

  • Empathetic: You have a natural ability to connect with young people and understand their unique needs.
  • Adaptable: You can switch gears quickly between different subjects and learning levels.
  • Team Player: You work seamlessly with teachers and the wider pastoral team.

Whilst previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar educational role is preferred it is not essential however you should have a genuine passion for working with young people and helping them succeed. You will need excellent
communication and interpersonal skills, have the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Have patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.

You will have a good standard of general education including Maths and English at Level 2 (GCSE grade C or higher or equivalent) and will have achieved a recognised teaching assistant qualification at Level 2 or equivalent.

In return we will provide a supportive and friendly working environment with excellent opportunities for professional development and training and most importantly the chance to make a real difference in the lives
of young people.
