The Vacancy

Sir John Nelthorpe School is a successful 11-19 mixed comprehensive school with a rich heritage and a strong reputation for academic excellence. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of English to join our high-performing faculty to cover a period of maternity leave.
The Role:
The successful candidate will be a passionate linguist and literature enthusiast, capable of delivering engaging and rigorous lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
This role is suitable for experienced teachers (M1-UPR3) looking for a new challenge in a supportive environment.
We also welcome applications from Early Career Teachers (ECTs), including those who will qualify in Summer 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
To plan and deliver high-quality English Language and Literature lessons that inspire and challenge all pupils.
To contribute to the development of the English curriculum and share best practices within the faculty.
To monitor pupil progress effectively, ensuring that all students—regardless of their starting point—reach their full potential.
To maintain a purposeful and positive learning environment in line with the school’s behaviour and inclusion policies.
The Successful Candidate will have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or be on track to achieve this by September 2026.
A degree in English or a closely related subject.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong professional relationships with students and staff.
A commitment to the "Fortis et Fidelis" ethos of the school.
