Apprentice Family Worker

The Vacancy
We’re looking for an Apprentice Family Worker to join our Best Start Family Hubs team. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to build a career supporting children, parents and carers, while gaining a recognised qualification at the same time.
As an apprentice, you’ll learn on the job, working alongside experienced Family Workers, and spend time each week completing your apprenticeship training. You’ll be involved in real frontline work, helping families access support, build confidence and connect with their communities.
What you’ll be doing
Under supervision and with support, you will:
- Support children and families to take part in activities, groups and events at Family Hubs and in the community
- Help organise and run group sessions and multi-agency activities, following risk assessments
- Visit families in their homes to offer information, advice and guidance
- Encourage parents and carers to get involved in community activities, training and volunteering
- Work with other professionals and organisations to make sure families get the right support
- Promote children’s health and wellbeing, including access to health services and early support
- Support the delivery of evidence-based parenting programmes
- Record information accurately and follow safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection guidance
- Play a part in inspections and service reviews, including OFSTED
- Work in an inclusive way that values diversity and respects every family
What we’re looking for
We’re interested in people who are keen to learn, care about families, and want to make a difference.
You should have:
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Basic IT skills
- The ability to organise your time and meet deadlines
- A willingness to take direction and work as part of a team
- An understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding, or a willingness to learn
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade 4/C or above — or the willingness to achieve these during the apprenticeship

- Willing to learn and take responsibility for your development
- Able to use your initiative when appropriate
- Tact, sensitivity and professionalism when working with families
Working arrangements
- Flexible working, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Regular work in Family Hubs, community settings and family homes
- Ability to travel independently across the locality
Training and development
You’ll complete a relevant apprenticeship standard, alongside a structured induction and ongoing support from your manager and colleagues.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
